With many people continuing to work from home in 2021, the market for home improvements keeps going up. This is in part, due to more people being home and seeing the work or improvements that need to be done. The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home. So, it makes sense to start there if you’re thinking about making some changes. Not to mention, an updated kitchen can increase the value of the home. It can be tough prioritizing what to update when you’re on a budget. We suggest doing something that will make a big impact such as replacing the cabinets and repainting.

Open shelves have been on trend for the last few years and the trend doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. However, there are some downfalls to open shelves. They can be a dust magnet, which makes for more cleaning. You also can’t just put your dishes away haphazardly, as your mess will be available for anyone that enters your home to see. While we enjoy the look of open shelving, we don’t love the negatives that come along with having them.

Kitchen interior with cabinets

Glass covered shelves offer a similar look to open shelving but without the issue of dust and debris getting on your dish ware. This style of cabinetry also allows you to show off any prized pieces, that you have in your ceramics collection. Glass cabinets are typically used for top cabinets with solid cabinets on the bottom. This general guide gives space for any pots, pans and appliances that you may not want to display.

The trend of colorful cabinets appeared in 2019, continued into 2020 and is still going as we welcome 2021. We like the pairing of glass front cabinets for the top with something fun and colorful for the bottom cabinets, like the blue kitchen island cabinets that are in the picture above.
