For the gourmand in your life, skip the crowded restaurants and take your dad to the Live Oak Farmer’s Market for an effortless fathers day brunch. The market features a wide variety of ready-to-eat food, including crepes, coffee and espresso drinks, sweet and savory french treats from the little french bakery, and authentic Michoacan dishes. Or load up on some local, organic veggies, finish up with a stop at the Point Butcher Shop for some delicious steaks, and spend the afternoon soaking up the sun while grilling an epic meal for your family. Finally, if your pops is an aspiring cicerone, grab tickets for Roaring Camp Railroad’s Father’s Day Brew Train featuring the folks at Humble Sea pouring tastes of some of their favorite beer.

Santa Cruz County has a plethora of activities if the father figure in your life enjoys spending time in the great outdoors. Situated in the heart of Santa Cruz, Pogonip offers hiking and mountain biking trails. They even have trails for horseback riding. An added bonus is that most of the trails are dog friendly so that dad can bring his fur child. Over in Capitola, you can find several gorgeous surf breaks that can accommodate just about every skill level imaginable. You can find surfboard and wetsuit rentals at Capitola Beach Company, conveniently located near Esplanade Park. First Jetty is the perfect spot for beginners.

If your dad is hungry for some entertainment on Father’s day, local favorite The Crow’s Nest will have three stand-up comedians perform starting at 9:00 pm. Over at Moe’s Alley, you can find Bon Vivant, which takes inspiration from New Orleans and will surely get you on the dance floor. If rock is your father’s preferred musical choice, then take him to Michael’s on Main, where Grateful Sunday, a Grateful Dead tribute band, will be performing.

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate the father figure in our lives. For many people, this means spending time with their fathers and reflecting on the positive impact they’ve had on our lives. It can also be a day for remembering all of the wonderful dads we have lost. So, no matter your plans, we hope you have a great Father’s Day!
