So please, join us on October 17th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm for pumpkin picking, photo booth, and live performances. Please, read below to learn about some of our other favorite fall activities in Santa Cruz!
Gizdich Ranch, located in Watsonville, was purchased in 1937 by a Croatian immigrant and has been in the family for four generations. They originally started with an apple orchard, tomato garden, chickens, and pigs. After just over a decade in business, they decided to expand and try their hand at growing olallieberries, a hybrid between loganberries and blackberries. The farm now offers “u-pick” apples and berries, where one can come and pick the amount of produce they want from the farm themselves. Gizdich is open seven days a week from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. They also offer a variety of pies, pastries, and jams. So, pack up the family on a crisp fall day and head down to Watsonville to pick some apples and make memories.
The best places to see the leaves change color
Take an afternoon to cruise up highway 9 to Skyline. This gorgeous drive is one of the best places in Santa Cruz county to see the leaves changing color. One of our favorite routes to take is a loop that starts north of downtown Boulder Creek and goes up highway 9, right on Skyline Blvd, right on Bear Creek Rd, and back to downtown. For those of you that like an ocean view with your Sunday drive, you can opt to turn left on Skyline Blvd, then turn left onto 84 until you reach Highway 1, then go right and enjoy the drive along the coast back into town.
Located just north of Santa Cruz on the picturesque Highway 1, Rodoni farms is a Santa Cruz classic. Rodoni Farms offers you-pick pumpkins, cutouts for photo-ops, and a corn maze. The farm was founded in 1937 by Dante Rodoni after he immigrated to Santa Cruz from Italy. The third generation of Rodoni farmers now runs it. Other vegetables and fruits are also available to purchase. The farm is open daily from September 24th – October 31st from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
Roaring Camp Railroads Harvest Faire
A local favorite, Roaring Camp railroads hosts a harvest faire every weekend in October from the 9th to the 31st. The railroads are run by the daughter of the founder, F. Norman Clark. Activities at the faire include a ride on a historic steam engine. If train rides aren’t your thing, they also offer trick-or-treating, panning for gold, and pumpkin picking.
Fall is a great time to explore the outdoors. Gizdich Ranch, Rodoni Farms, and Roaring Camp are all great fall activities for which the Santa Cruz area is known. What other fun things do you enjoy doing in October? Share them with us!
